THE DEATH OF SOCRATES

HISTORY'S TIDBIT - Convicted on charges of having corrupted the youth if Athens, the renowned Greek philosopher Socrates was put to death by forced ingestion of the poison hemlock. Socrates was actually afforded a chance to escape but chose not to.

Today's History's Tidbit - Pharaoh Tutankhamun, who assumed the throne of Egypt at the age of nine, ruled for a mere ten years. There has been much speculation that the young pharaoh's untimely death was a result of intentional homicide.

J.F.K. SHOT IN DALLAS 11/22/1963

HISTORY'S TIDBIT - On November 22, 1963, President John F. Kennedy was shot to death in Dallas Texas. There is still considerable controversy over whether Lee Harvey Oswald was the lone assassin.By the way, I forgot to give you the answer to the Dodgers question. The Dodgers won.

YOU SAY HOUDINI - I SAY HARDEEN - LET'S CALL THE WHOLE THING OFF.

Today's History's Tidbit - Famed magician iHarry Houdin engaged in a bitter feud with fellow magician Theo Hardeen. For years, each illusionist attempted to outdo the other. The feud however, turned out to be a publicity stunt staged by the two men. Houdini's real name was Eric Weisz. Theo Hardeen's real name was Theodore Weisz. The two 'feuding' magicians were actually brothers.

THE BROOKLYN DODGERS NO MORE

Here's today's tidbit. The Brooklyn Dodgers moved the franchise to Los Angeles 1n 1958. The new Los Angeles Dodgers played their first game in L.A. April 18th, 1958 against the San Francisco Giants. Who won that game? Find out on the next History' Tidbit.

THE BURNING MAN

Today's History's Tidbit - Jacques de Molay, last grand master of the Knights Templar, was burned at the stake on March 18th, 1314. As a further punishment for his having recanted a confession of heresy he had made under torture, his executioners saw to it that his death did not come quickly. They slowly cooked de Molay to death.

DOC HOLLIDAY - HAVE GUN WILL PULL TEETH

Here's another HISTORY'S TIDBIT. But first I'll provide you with the answer to the riddle included in the last tidbit. Sam Houston served as governor of Tennessee and Texas. He also served as a U.S. Senator from both Tennessee and Texas. He also served two unconsecutive terms as president of the Republic of Texas Now, on to the next tidbit. Do you know why John H. Holliday was referred to as Doc Holliday? Although not a medical doctor, Holliday was a dentist. By the time he reached Tombstone however, he was far better known as a gunman than as a puller of teeth.
